Somatics and Regulations 101 (Touch Therapy)

Welcome to Somatics and Regulation 101! This class explores the profound connection between a dog’s body, mind, and behavior through the lens of canine somatics and nervous system regulation. Students will be introduced to the foundations of Chinese veterinary medicine, gaining an understanding of how energetic balance influences physical and emotional health in dogs. We’ll also examine the canine nervous system, learning how patterns of stress, trauma, and over-arousal can lead to behaviors often misinterpreted as disobedience or defiance

Through a combination of discussion and hands-on techniques, participants will learn gentle methods to help dogs return to a state of regulation and safety. The emphasis is on observing and supporting the dog’s natural signals rather than correcting or suppressing them.

By the end of the class, students will understand that regulation precedes training—that a calm, connected dog learns best. Strengthening the bond of trust and communication between human and dog becomes the foundation for effective training, emotional balance, and long-term well-being in today’s ever-changing canine world.
